George Garley

George is the head instructor of the Kids and Adults Brazilian Jiu Jitsu program at Guardians Jiu Jitsu. He also leads the Guardians Self-Defence Program and the Corporate Team Building Program.

George is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt under 2x World Champion and western Australia’s first female black belt Professor Josephine Masiello. He first started teaching Brazilian Jiu Jitsu as a children's instructor at Seldys Gym and found his calling in helping kids grow in confidence and resilience, as well as in their martial arts technique. He is dedicated and passionate about helping students achieve their personal goals, whether it’s to get in shape, start competing, or simply learn the gentle art.

For the past 8 years George has been an active competitor in the sport of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and has competed in multiple state, national and international BJJ tournaments, including Western Australian Gi State Championship, Perth No Gi State Championship, East Coast Australian Championship, Pan Pacific Championship, and the No Gi World Championship.

George is a dynamic grappler, and his athletic wrestling style has previously landed him spots in some of Australia’s top professional grappling shows featuring a list of some of Australia’s biggest talents in the sport. He encourages and supports students wishing to compete and draws from his own experience as a competitor when preparing students for competitions.

To George, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is more than just a sport; it’s a philosophy that shapes the way he works, lives and relates to others. It’s a truly special martial art that teaches respect, discipline, patience and perseverance. George would like everyone to give Brazilian Jiu Jitsu a go, so that they can see and experience the benefits for themselves.
